A FOOTBALL team in the Tyne Valley has progressed to two cup finals in a matter of days.

Hexham Green U17s will now contest both the U17’s League Cup and U17’s West Division Cup finals next month, after two fine wins.

In the West Division Cup, an all-Hexham affair saw the Greens dominate against Hexham Whites, with Dan Simpson hitting four goals on the way to a huge 12-1 win.

The hosts also saw standout performances from Matthew Kilby – who scored twice – and Will Burns, who hit a second half hat-trick, and they’ll now play Prudhoe in the final.

In the League Cup, the Greens faced Newcastle Bluestar, with the Hexham team coming out 4-1 winners despite going a goal down early on.

The impressive scoreline was also added to by the fact that the team only had one substitute available throughout the entire game, with Kilby again getting two of the goals.
