A CRICKET club in the Tyne Valley was the location for incredible scenes in a game at the weekend, with a new name making the headlines.

12-year-old Owen Forbes took four wickets in just four balls to help Allendale 2nds take the victory in the West Tyne Cricket League game against Mitford 2nds on Saturday afternoon.

Owen, who was making his senior men’s debut in the West Tyne league, bowled three of the wickets while another was caught at point.

After batting first, Allendale had set the away side 232 to win, but thanks to Owen’s feat, Mitford were bowled out for just 172, with the youngster going on to bowl a total of seven overs for just 21 runs.

The club has also now added Owen’s incredible achievement to their hall of fame board, ensuring the match will remain in people memories for years to come.

Writing in a message on social media, Allendale Cricket Club said: “Allendale CC today (Saturday) witnessed one of the most amazing things we have ever seen in the club’s history going back to 1946.

“12 year old Owen Forbes didn’t just take a hat-trick on his debut in men’s cricket......he took 4 wickets in 4 deliveries!!

“3 were bowled and one caught at point

“Congratulations to Owen. We think this is the start of a glittering cricket career.”
