TEENAGE rugby players from the district were celebrating a major victory on Sunday.
Tynedale Panthers U18 defeated West Park of St Helens 24-14 to win the North of England National Cup.
It capped a remarkable journey to the final, which took place at Yarnbury in Yorkshire.
It was a proud day for Tynedale, who had two teams competing in North of England finals.
The club’s U15 team were defeated by a very strong Sandal outfit, from Wakefield.
But afterwards, they were on the sidelines to cheer on their older clubmates to glory.
“It was a fantastic day for the club,” said coach Nick Oliver. “Both our sides were involved in cracking games, which were played to a very high standard.”
