IT wasn't to be for two of the district's sides in the semi-finals of the Northumberland FA Minor Cup on Saturday.

A sizeable crowd turned out at Wentworth Leisure Centre, where home side Hexham were defeated 2-0 by Cramlington Town.

Haltwhistle Jubilee travelled to Jesmond, and the sides were level at 1-1 after 90 minutes. The tie went straight to penalties, and the Jubes lost in heartbreaking fashion.

Nevertheless, it's not every season that the Tyne Valley has two sides riding so high in such a prestigious competition.

Players, coaches and supporters of Hexham and Haltwhistle can be proud of their efforts.
