TWO teenage rugby stars from Tynedale RFC represented Northern England in a match against the South West.

Joe Hanning and Jack Donaldson both turned out for the North U18 side, and played their part in a resounding 41-10 victory.

The Tynedale youngsters were in the thick of the action, with Hanning scoring a memorable try from second row.

The match took place at Warwick Rugby Club in Warwickshire, on Saturday. The victory came a week after both Hanning and Donaldson featured in the North’s 29-17 defeat against the Midlands, at Stourbridge.

l Tynedale’s first XI will be hoping for better weather when they return to action this weekend.

The team have not played since a 34-26 home defeat against Wharfedale on February 8.

The National League Division Two North side had hoped to get the disappointing result out of their system away to Huddersfield, but that fixture was postponed twice due to adverse conditions.

Director of rugby Ben Woods is preparing for a trip to face Sheffield Tigers in the league on Saturday.

Tynedale will start the match in ninth position, two places and three points ahead of the Yorkshiremen, and they also have a game in hand.

But the two sides are closely matched, with Tynedale winning a close encounter 19-18 at Corbridge back in November. Tynedale’s second XV, the Raiders, will also travel to Sheffield on Saturday, to take on the Tigers’ second string.
