THE men’s first team at Hexham Squash Club have continued their encouraging start to 2020.

They have won three out of five fixtures since the turn of the year, moving the team up from the Northumbria Squash League relegation zone, to fourth place.

The most recent win was against Cramlington, where they won 4-1 and took 19 out of the 20 game points available.

There were three valiant comeback performances by Tom Ewen, Damon Watts and Andrew Wilkinson, who were all trailing 2-1 down in games, but all three players managed to turn it around to win their respective matches 3-2.

Jeremy Philipson dispatched his opponent 3-1, while Paul Satow was unfortunate to lose his match 3-2 against a very strong Cramlington player.

Hexham’s second team were not to be overshadowed as they won their match against Tynemouth V.

Adrian Alderton put in an accomplished performance at number one string, winning 3-0. Duncan Hunter toughed it out to win 3-2, while Ed Edwardson secured the overall victory with some consistent rallying to get over the line at 3-1.

Hexham III team lost 4-1 to Consett III team. The result was a shock for Hexham, coming on the back of two good wins against Primrose IV and Consett IV respectively.

A notable performance in the overall defeat to Consett III was from Tim Anderson at number two string, who won his match 3-1.

Hexham players competed in the Northumbria Senior County Closed Competition, in various age categories, with men, women, and junior players all excelling.

Hexham Squash Club and their facilities are located behind the clubhouse at Hexham Golf Club.
