TWO closely matched sides locked horns when Wallington hosted Cullercoats in Northern Alliance Premier Division.
It was a windy encounter at Oakford Park, which the visitors won 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Hylton Hub.
The game could have gone either way, but Cullercoats leapfrogged their Scots Gap-based hosts to go eighth in the league table.
Wallington were reduced to 10 men in the second half when John Paxton saw red for dissent, after a penalty claim was turned down.
However, the numerical disadvantage didn’t stop the Greens from pushing forward, and in the closing stages, Justin Millican came close to levelling the scores. Unfortunately for Wallington, his effort struck the post.
The Greens will host second bottom side Whitley Bay Reserves on Saturday.
