PRUDHOE YC Seniors let slip a one-goal lead as they missed the opportunity to make the final four of the league cup.

Sam Moore’s goal after 12 minutes put the Division One side in the driving seat, but Willington Quay Saints from the division below came back to take the tie 2-1.

In a game of few chances, it was Moore who drew first blood as he turned his marker well after receiving the ball from Ben Bloomer, and fired home.

Prudhoe had suffered a blow just a matter of minutes before the opener, driving force Sam Dibb-Fuller replaced by Bloomer after picking up an injury.

Willington, backed by a strong home crowd of close to 100 spectators, were led by a lively front line, and they levelled the tie on 25 minutes.

The hosts, currently 10th in Division Two, gained the lead with 10 minutes of the first half remaining as they finished a well-worked move.

It was the home goalkeeper who was the star of the show in the second half as he kept his side ahead, first tipping a wicked free kick from Harry Mitchell on to the bar and then producing another fingertip save right at the death as Willington progressed to the semi-finals.
