RUNNERS from the district braved the cold weather to earn medals at the Birtley Cross Country Relay Championships.
Tynedale Harriers’ women’s veteran 45 team posted a positive performance to earn first place in their age category.
Kirstie Anderson (12:55), who also recorded the 12th fastest individual leg, Jeannie Brady (13:32) and Stephanie Scott (14:58) combined for an overall time of 41:25 and a first placed finish on the podium.
Elsewhere in the competition, Wylam’s Robyn Bennett ran the fourth fastest leg in 12:05 for Morpeth Harriers A. Claire Collinson, from Stocksfield, finished 16th in the fastest leg category with a time of 13:06 for Blaydon Harriers A.
There was similar success in the masters men’s M45 category as the Harriers’ trio finished in second place.
Andrew Green (11:24) whose leg was the 22nd fastest, John O’Reilly (12:18) and Phil Vincent (11:47) recorded an overall time of 35:29 to earn a second placed finished behind Sunderland Harriers B.
Tynedale Harriers’ senior men’s team finished a solid 15th among a competitive field. Joe Green (12:03), Darren Towart (13:24) and Will Lloyd (12:58) combined to record an overall time of 38:25.
Prudhoe runner Terry Scott also finished with the ninth fastest time for Tyne Bridge A in 10:14.
