THERE was a happy return to South Africa for Stocksfield golfer Chris Paisley.

The 33-year-old performed admirably at the South African Open in Johannesburg - where he earned his first European Tour victory back in January 2018.

There was no trophy this time around, but Paisley once again rubbed shoulders with the game's leading names, and just missed out on a top 50 place, in a field of 240.

He got off to a good start, with two opening rounds of 68 taking Paisley to six-under par, which meant he ended Friday's play just five strokes off the lead.

The former Stocksfield Golf Club junior carded respectable closing rounds of 72 and 73, and finished on three-under par.

The event was won by South African Brandon Grace, with a four-round total of 21-under par. His fellow countryman and former Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen was second, on 18-under par.
