YOUNG sports leaders from three of the district’s schools have started a cricket coaching course.
The Cricket Activator qualification will provide them with the skills and knowledge to work with younger pupils within school, and also to volunteer in the wider community.
The sports leaders, from Haydon Bridge High, Prudhoe High, and St Joseph’s Middle School in Hexham, are learning under the guidance of the cricket development officer for West Northumberland, Tom Cant.
To complete the qualification, they must fulfil 10 hours of volunteering by the end of the school year. This will be achieved by working with younger pupils in PE lessons, at lunchtimes and during after-school club sessions.
