THE fixture list planned a mouth-watering weekend to end 2019 for the district’s Northern Alliance football teams.

A double derby day was set to see Division Two leaders Haltwhistle Jubilee take on Division One Hexham in the George Dobbins League Cup.

In the same competition, Premier Division side Wallington were set to entertain Prudhoe YC Seniors, who are currently flying high in Division One.

But rainfall took its toll on playing surfaces, and both matches were postponed.

However, both games have been rearranged for Saturday, January 4.

The only other game with local interest last weekend, the Premier Division fixture between Ponteland United and Whitley Bay Reserves, also fell foul of the weather.

Ponteland will also return to action on January 4, when they host Jesmond in the George Dobbins League Cup.

The Christmas period will give the district’s footballers a chance to reflect on what has generally been a very good year, especially for Haltwhistle. The Jubes won a league and cup double in the Tyneside Amateur League, before making the switch to the Northern Alliance, and are now top of Division Two.
