DESPITE goals from Kieran Russel and Sam Moore, Prudhoe YC Seniors had to settle for a draw at home to Whitley Bay Sporting Club on Saturday.

The Northern Alliance Division One encounter finished 2-2, with the hosts missing an opportunity to go top of the league table.

Nevertheless, they remain in second place, just one point behind leaders Hebburn Town U23, on level games.

Prudhoe started brightly against the mid-table North Tynesiders, and took the lead when Russel headed home a Matty Robinson corner from 12 yards out.

Shortly before half time, Prudhoe keeper Thomas White was called into action, diving to his right to divert an effort on goal.

However, the visitors equalised on 50 minutes. After another save from White, Whitley Bay’s Chris Conway tucked away the rebound.

And the Bay took the initiative on 70 minutes, when Adam Whitehead fired them into a 2-1 lead.

Things got worse for Prudhoe when Luke Banks received a yellow card on 71 minutes for a late challenge. He was shown a second yellow for another late tackle just a minute later, and was dismissed.

The hosts were down to 10 men, but refused to give up.

Moore rescued a point for Prudhoe two minutes from time. Robinson’s low delivery from the right was met by Moore, who finished with a fine half volley from 10 yards, as Prudhoe ended the game on a high.
