GOLFER Matty Lamb has scooped the top prize at the annual Sport Tynedale Awards.

Around 450 people attended the annual awards evening, which took place at Hexham's Wentworth Leisure Centre on Sunday. 

The Hexham golfer, who has enjoyed an outstanding year on the fairways, won sportsman of the year, and also took the Tynedale Trophy for overall adult champion. 

It came after Lamb won the Hampshire Hog Open, came runner up in the St Andrews Links Trophy, and also represented England this year.

Winning the equivalent award for junior participants, the Ian Turner Trophy, was runner Dan Joyce, who won the English Schools 800m title, and the Scottish Schools International Athletics Board 800m championship this year.

The awards evening was hosted by former ITV sports presenter and commentator, Roger Tames. Trophies were presented by Hexham Golf Club's head professional, Andy Paisley.
