TWO goals from Jake Walton were among the highlights as Wallington won 4-1 at home to Seaton Delaval Amateurs.

The result saw the Greens get back to winning ways in the Northern Alliance Premier Division.

Andy Bell and Simon Farrier also registered in the game, against the division’s basement side.

The confidence-boosting win moved Wallington up to eighth in the league, with 15 points from eight games, and it helped to erase the memory of the previous week’s 5-1 defeat to Alnwick in the Team Valley Carpets Combination Cup.

The Scots Gap-based side have games in hand over their rivals, after winter weather led to frustrating postponements for over a month.

Wallington are set to travel to Winlaton Vulcans in the league on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, Ponteland United lost 1-0 at home to AFC New Fordley.

The game was an entertaining one, which could have gone either way. In the end it was settled by a 15th minute penalty from Liam Hudson, which proved to be the only goal of the afternoon.

The disappointing result continued Ponteland’s inconsistent form this season, and they currently sit in 10th position, one place below Wallington, with 13 points from 10 games.

They will travel to league leaders Newcastle Blue Star on Saturday hoping for a return to top form.
