SHARP shooting from Hexham pupils saw them overcome the challenge from golfers from Ponteland.
The Queen Elizabeth High School team of Angus Buchanan, Junior Dobson and Zara Naughton shot their way to victory in the opening round of the Northumberland Schools Golf Series, held at Longhirst Hall.
The trio, who are all members at Matfen Hall Golf Club, all shot rounds of 78 to see the school finish four shots ahead of runners-up Ponteland High School.
Gross 78 proved to be the best girl’s score and best Key Stage 3 (under 14) gross of the day, meaning Zara picked up a further two individual prizes.
Henry Joynson, representing Newcastle School for Boys, recorded the best gross score of the day, also earning the Key Stage 4, trophy with a fantastic score of 75.
The competition was well supported with 72 players turning out.
