JUNIORS from Hexham Rowing Club triumphed in the annual Tyne Long Distance Sculls and Small Boats Head at Newburn.

The club’s winning J16 4x- quad of Archie Stewart, James Turnbull, Thomas Campbell and Aidan Wright, posted a highly respectable time of 20.25.4 against the tide and a testing headwind in the morning session of the events, hosted by the Tyne and Tyne United Rowing Clubs.

Their clubmates Hayley Hannant and Lucy Thorpe won the WJ16 doubles category with a time of 23.13.5 over the same 4.5km course.

The events are run in a time trial format and, in the afternoon SBH competition, Turnbull and Stewart again took to the water, this time in a double, and won the Open J16 2x class. Hannant was also a double winner, with an afternoon success in a composite Hexham/QEHS crew which won the WJ16 4x- coxless quad competition. A total of 17 Hexham crews took part.
