TYNEDALE’ Ladies’ second away match of the season ended in a disappointing 8-0 defeat against Medics first XI.

The Newcastle-based side are a strong outfit, and despite their best efforts, the battling Tynedale side were overwhelmed by a constant wave of overlapping attacks and surging runs from midfield.

The visitors didn’t sit back and crumble, however. After defending several penalty corners during the first half, they put together a number of dangerous attacks, particularly down the right hand side.

But they struggled to find a way through a resolute Medics defence, and rarely did their forays forward lead to clear goalscoring opportunities.

Once Medics broke the deadlock, they continued to score at a frequent rate, and notched up five by half time.

By this stage, Tynedale had adjusted to the threats posed by their opponents, and were a much more composed unit in the second period.

The Medics continued to press forward, and stretching the visiting back line. The defence of Katy Brown, Emma Sanderson and Lorraine Bell worked non-stop.

However, Tyne’s midfielders did manage to get some time on the ball, and were able to distribute their passes more effectively, as Tynedale produced a number of chances to score.

A penalty corner routine saw an accurate shot from Lizzie Scott travel past the far post and just beyond the reach of the incoming Naomi Garner.

Tynedale showed some great interlinking passing down the right and centre of the pitch but again came unstuck with their final few passes.

The Medics only scored three goals in the second half. Tynedale goalkeeper Nicky Baguley put in an outstanding performance, making many saves, and her efforts helped to keep the score to 8-0.

She was awarded player of the match as a result of her performance between the sticks.

This weekend, Tynedale play Newcastle III as they look to kick start their season.

They will take many positives from their first three games as they sit three points off the top of the Northumberland A League.
