PONTELAND United Reserves were made to rue several missed chances as they bowed out of the Neville Cowey Cup.

The Northern Alliance Development Division leaders were locked at 0-0 with Heaton Stannington A after 90 minutes on Saturday.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock during extra time, and it was the visitors from Heaton who won the penalty shoot out 4-2.

There were plenty of positives to be taken from the game for Ponteland. Manager Kennie Malia said he was pleased with the number of chances they created, but they were unable to convert them into goals. Daniel Troughton was named man of the match.

A big game awaits United Reserves on Saturday. They will welcome Premier Division side Wallington to Druids Park in the Reeves Independent George Dobbins League Cup.

Wallington, who are three divisions higher than than Malia’s men, will be eager to get back in action.

Their match away to Alnwick, in the Team Valley Carpets Challenge Cup last weekend, fell victim to the weather.

Saturday’s match will kick off at 2pm.
