FOOTBALLERS from the district have returned from Spain - where they represented England at the Danone Nations World Cup.
The girls’ team from Ponteland Middle School finished eighth at the tournament, at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona, where they took on international opposition.
The team won the fair play award for the impeccable manner in which they conducted themselves.
Headteacher Dr Caroline Pryer said: “They represented England on the world stage and were outstanding ambassadors. It was an extraordinary achievement for them to be part of such a huge event, and we are incredibly proud of them.”
The Ponteland girls qualified for the tournament against all odds last year when they memorably won the English Schools’ FA Danone Nations Cup, at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
