A CLOSING round of 67 earned Chris Paisley a top 10 finish at the French Open.

The Mickley golfer finished eighth at the tournament in Paris, which was won by former Ryder Cup player Nicholas Colsaerts.

Paisley carded three sub 70 rounds during an impressive, which saw him finish ahead of Trevor Immelman, Jamie Donaldson, and other seasoned tour players.

The former Stocksfield Golf Club junior followed his opening round of 68 with a disappointing 74. But he responded positively, carding a third round 68, before closing the tournament with a 67.

On the final day, Paisley charged up the leaderboard with a golden run of birdies at the eighth, ninth, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th holes, before parring his way in.

He said: “That’s some of the best golf I’ve played in a while, playing the last 11 holes in six-under par.”

Paisley said it was “lovely” to secure a top 10 place after a disappointing finish at the previous week’s Italian Open.

It was a memorable day for champion Colsaerts, as he wrapped up his first title win in seven years.

Despite carding a one-over-par 72 in the final round at Le Golf National, the Belgian finished on 12-under par, one shot ahead of Denmark’s Joachim B. Hansen.

Colsaerts is a veteran of the 2012 ‘Miracle of Medinah’ European Ryder Cup team.
