TYNEDALE Ladies’ first home game of the season saw a disappointing result despite a solid and determined performance.

But they struggled to cope with a potent Newcastle University IV side, and lost 5-0.

The hosts started on the attack with Vicky Forster and Jessie Coombe closing down in midfield, and interlinking well with Eliza Dawson and Naomi Garner.

The well-coached Uni side pressured the Tynedale midfield and defence with a steady wave of attacks down their left and through the centre, and eventually they took the lead. Tyne quickly conceded another as the defence became unstuck again.

At 2-0 down, Tynedale broke through more regularly and won a string of penalty corners. However, none were converted and the second half saw the Uni continue to attack.

Emma Sanderson covered strongly in defence, and Caitlin Cressey distributed the ball well. Player of the match Lizzie Scott had a number of great runs with the ball but the Uni keeper thwarted all attempts on goal.
