TEENAGE golf star Zara Naughton was a key member of the England Schools’ team which enjoyed success over Scotland.

The 13-year-old Matfen Golf Club player competed in the recent home international match, at Irvine Golf Club in North Ayrshire.

Zara was paired with fellow Northumbrian golfer Rachel Gourley for the morning foursomes, and the duo combined well to win their match at the 16th hole.

Zara also scored vital points during her singles match in the afternoon.

The youngster was selected to represent England after finishing runner-up in the U16 national schools’ final, and also finishing in the top six at the U19 national schools final this summer.

In July, the youngster excelled at Sherwood Forest Golf Club in Nottingham, where she produced some solid golf around the tricky heathland course.

A month earlier, Zara, along with fellow local golder Lois Blythe, led Northumberland to victory at the North of England School Girls Championship, at Denton Golf Club in Manchester.

The North representative team of girls and boys which excelled in Manchester, also included local youngsters Alex Heppell, Cameron Thoburn, Junior Dobson, and Angus Buchanan, all of whom impressed during the course of the year.
