A YOUNG Wylam Rockets Women side lost to the more experienced Heaton Hawks Ladies on Sunday.

Charlotte Murray scored Wylam’s consolation in an 8-1 defeat in the Pin Point Women’s League.

Wylam Rockettes Falcons hosted the Heaton Hawks Kestrels at Wylam Jubilee field in an U13 encounter.

Both teams got straight into the action in what was a fast paced opening 15 minutes with chances at both end. The deadlock was finally broken when Falcons striker Iona Irons latched onto a long ball and sprinted clear to slot neatly past the Kestrels keeper. The Kestrels created a number of chances but Falcons keeper Kodi Norman was on good form.

The second half started with the same quick tempo from both teams and, despite further pressure from the Kestrels, the Falcons quickly went 2-0 up after a 20 yard effort from Dalby. This was soon followed by a third for the Falcons, when Freya Neal sprinted down the right wing, cut inside and finished neatly inside the post.

The Kestrels refused to give up and, with 20 minutes to go, their determination paid off. A long, lobbed effort bounced clear over the Falcons keeper and into the net.

The Kestrels, buoyed by their goal, dominated for a spell, but it was the Falcons who netted next, through a second marauding run from Neal in the last five minutes. Time ran out for the Kestrels and the Falcons finally won 4-1, in what was a hard fought, well played match.
