Tynedale Ladies started the new season with a convincing 3-0 win over Newcastle University V.

With a good pre-season behind them, Tynedale showed a lot of promise in their opening fixture in the Northumberland A League.

Under the leadership of new captain Emma Sanderson, the side started brightly and attacked strongly down the right side and middle.

A succession of penalty corners finally saw Tynedale open the scoring. A strong injection was followed by a slipped pass to Victoria Forster, and her shot deflected off a defenders stick.

A blocked pass across the face of goal from Sue Crawford fell to Alison Westworth, who struck the ball from close range into the net.

Tynedale continued to control the game and their second goal came from player of the match Lizzie Scott. A great pass from midfield dissected the Uni defence which found Scott in the D, and she accurately swept the ball into the goal.

The second half saw the Uni team up their game with the Tynedale defence being kept busy, while goalkeeper Nicky Baguley was regularly called into action.

Tynedale withstood several strong tackles and created their third goal following a string of interlinking passes which saw Naomi Garner arrive at the right hand post to score a superb goal. Both umpires also performed well, and kept good control throughout.

This is Tynedale’s second consecutive season in the A League after an absence of five years.
