IT was a day to forget for Ponteland United Reserves in the Northumberland FA Minor Cup.

The Northern Alliance Development Division leaders travelled to Bedlington to face a side two divisions above them in Northern Alliance Division One.

The underdogs got off to a disappointing start, and were 4-0 down at half time. Manager Kennie Malia made four changes after the break, and it stemmed the tide, with no further goals in the match. Jake Lynch was man of the match.

Malia said: “It was an awful first half. It was always going to be a mountain to climb being 4-0 down at half time. We made four substitutions and changed the team shape, and the performance was a lot better. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.”

Ponteland Reserves can put the tie behind them, and focus on their promotion bid.

They host Red House Farm on Saturday. Kick off at Druids Park will be at 2.30pm.
