NOT all of the district’s football teams played last Saturday, as heavy rainfall took its toll on playing surfaces.

Among those to miss out was Northern Alliance Premier Division side Wallington. The Scots Gap side were due to host North Shields Athletic in the league, but the pitch at Oakford Park was waterlogged. The green and whites will be hopeful that their next game, at home to Shankhouse in the league on Saturday, will go ahead.

“If the bad weather carries on, this weekend’s game will also be in doubt,” admitted the club’s Kyle Reardon.

“But obviously we want to get back on to the pitch and will be doing all we can to make that happen.”

Wallington enjoyed two impressive away cup victories prior to last week’s postponement. They defeated Red Row Welfare 2-0 in the George Dobbins League Cup, and Shankhouse 4-2 in the Team Valley Carpets Challenge Cup.

l Wylam Rockettes U12 took on a newly-formed Benfield in the Pin Point League, and hit double figures in a confident performance.

Wylam Rockettes’ other teams suffered weather-related postponements.
