A CHANCE encounter on the River Tyne has led to national recognition for Hexham Rowing Club.
The club’s lady captain Catherine Bowman was out training when she met open water swimmers Fenwick Ridley and Adam Rouse.
Corbridge man Fenwick, who has recently completed a high profile 60-mile charity swim up the Tyne from Newcastle to Kielder, took a photo on his selfie stick.
And the image, with a sunlit Hexham Bridge in the background, has won Rowing and Regatta magazine’s picture of the month competition.
During his charity mission, 34-year-old Fenwick spent up to 12 hours a day in the water, while pulling a raft stocked with basic essentials.
His epic challenge raised over £3,000 in aid of Cancer Research UK.
