A DEBUT goal for Darren Young helped Ponteland United on their way to a 2-0 win at North Shields Athletic in the Team Valley Carpets Challenge Cup.
Young’s second half strike completed the scoring after Reece Havelock-Brown had given the visitors the lead.
Ponteland were given a good game by a hard working North Shields side, but sealed their place in the next round of the competition.
Ponteland have now won three consecutive matches, following their recent 6-0 demolition of Whitburn & Cleadon, and their 3-1 win at Alnwick Town.
The black and whites will return to league action on Saturday, when they host Blyth Town. Kick off is at 2.30pm.
Ponteland United Reserves won 5-0 against Morpeth in the Team Valley Carpets Neville Cowey Cup on Saturday.
Toy Spratt scored a brace for the Northern Alliance Development Division side, while Stephen Cape, Daniel Troughton, and Jake Browell also registered in the impressive victory for Kennie Malia’s side.
