TYNEDALE Ladies made a bright start to the new season as they won their category at the annual seven-aside Hazelwood Tournament, reaching the semi-finals.

They remained unbeaten throughout with four wins and a draw, as the team played with energy and impressive interlinking play to score some memorable goals.

The first game saw Tynedale draw 1-1 with a strong Alnwick team. Lily Hextall connected brilliantly with a cross to the right post to score the equaliser. Nicky Baguley in goal made a series of crucial saves to help secure the draw.

Tynedale then managed a solid 1-0 win over Whitley Bay, with captain Emma Sanderson and Katy Brown defending robustly. The winning goal came from a short corner strike, with Vicky Forster cleverly deflecting the ball into the goal at the left post.

In a golden 15-minute spell, Tynedale scored four superb goals against a North Shields B team with goals from Esme Gallagher, Sue Crawford, and a brace for Lily Hextall .

Tynedale then notched up a 1-0 victory over Newcastle, as a free hit saw Sue Crawford swiftly carry the ball into the circle to score.

Against North Shields A, the Tynedale defence was kept busy with Lorraine Bell and Iona Hextall performing well. Vicky Forster scored the winning goal from another penalty corner.

In the semi-finals, Tynedale played a good game against Morpeth, but suffered their first defeat of the day.

The 2-0 win for Morpeth saw them progress into the final. Tynedale’s league campaign will begin on October 6.
