WALLINGTON continued their upturn in form with a four-star performance against Shankhouse in the Team Valley Carpets Challenge Cup.

The Scots Gap-based side won 4-2 with goals from Michael Angus, Sam Walton, Simon Farrier, and Jake Walton, to progress into the second round of the competition.

It was their second cup tie win in a week, following the previous Saturday’s 2-0 win at Red Row Welfare in the George Dobbins League Cup.

And it saw both Walton and Farrier continue their impressive goalscoring form this season. Man of the match for the greens was midfielder Ben Turnbull.

It was a dominant display for the Greens, who performed well as a team in glorious autumn sunshine.

As a reward for their victory, Wallington have been handed an away tie at Alnwick Town in the second round of the competition, on October 19.

The back-to-back wins will boost the confidence of a Wallington side which has won four out of seven league games this season.

The seventh-placed side will return to league action on Saturday, when North Shields Athletic are the visitors to Oakford Park, with kick off at 2.30pm.

Wallington have finished fourth in the league for two successive campaigns. Last season, they embarked on a remarkable unbeaten run which stretched for six months, from September to March.

The greens now have three consecutive home matches. They will host Shankhouse in the league, on October 5, and AFC Killingworth in the Northumberland FA Les Todd Senior Benevolent Bowl, on October 12.
