GOLFER Matty Lamb played a key role as England retained the Home International Trophy for a second successive year.

The Hexham Golf Club member was instrumental in the 9-6 victory over Scotland, in the final of the tournament, at Lahinch in Ireland.

After the morning foursomes, the two sides were locked together on two-and-a-half points each. Matty and Ben Hutchinson secured a crucial 4&3 victory over James Wilson and Connor McKinney, while Bailey Gill and Joshua McMahon earned a halve against Lewis Irvine and Stuart Easton.

In the afternoon singles, Matty was one of three England players to get a win on the board, along with Thomas Sloman and Benjamin Jones, while Thomas Plumb and Callum Farr gained vital halves. England captain Gareth Jenkins said: “They’ve played some outstanding golf on a beautiful golf course.”
