PRUDHOE’ YC Seniors’ impressive start to the new season continued with a 3-2 win at Whitburn & Cleadon on Saturday.

The Seniors moved up to fourth place in Northern Alliance Division One after their third successive victory.

They started the game brightly, taking the lead on nine minutes when Sam Moore coolly converted a cross from Ben Bloomer.

Whitburn & Cleadon equalised on 25 minutes, but Prudhoe equalised on the stroke of half time.

Danny Driver’s long throws have proved effective so far this season. He picked out Aaron Ridley on the edge of the box, who found the corner with a curling shot from 15 yards.

On 62 minutes, Ryan Burnyeat hit the crossbar from close range, before Luke Banks had a good shot saved by the goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards, on 67 minutes, the hosts equalised with a clinical breakaway goal.

But straight from the restart, Prudhoe restored their lead. An impressive move involving Lee Blackburn, Harry Mitchell, and Sam Moore, led to the latter converting his second of the game, and his eighth goal of the season.

The win followed an outstanding comeback from Prudhoe during midweek. They were 3-0 down at home to FC United of Newcastle before roaring their way back to win 4-3. Another Driver long throw led to a goal for Mitchell from close range. Brad Rogers scored a penalty after Mitchell was fouled in the area, to make it 3-2. Then Moore converted a Rogers ball into the box, before Mitchell headed home a Matty Robinson cross.
