TEENAGE acro-gymnast Jonny Henderson has been selected to represent Great Britain.

The Hexham youngster will perform at the Acrobatic Gymnastics Pan American Club Cup, in Monterrey, Mexico, in November.

Jonny is part of a male quartet, based at Deerness Gymnastics Academy, at Ushaw Moor in County Durham, who achieved national success earlier this summer.

In July, Jonny and his teammates Sam Stafford, Marcus Winship, and Aaron Greally, earned silver medals at the British Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool.

The four boys will team up once again as a quartet in Mexico. However, they are having to work extra hard to make the self-funded trip happen.

In addition to their rigorous training programme, the youngsters have been carrying out fund-raising activities, including a supermarket bag pack, a raffle, and a car boot sale.

Jonny’s mum Lorna said: “It is fantastic that British Gymnastics have recognised their hard work and given them an opportunity to experience competing at an international event.”

The quartet have also been named as official reserves for Great Britain at the European Age Group Acrobatic Gymnastic Championships, which will take place in Holon, Israel, in October.
