TEENAGE athletics sensation Dan Joyce rounded off a superb season with yet another national title.

The 16-year-old won the U17 boys’ 800m at the England Athletics U15 / U17 Championships in Bedford.

Joyce, from Slaley, ran a tactical race, and was placed behind the leading group until the last 300m.

He moved up to the shoulder of another North-East competitor, Henry Johnson, of Houghton Harriers, before accelerating to victory, running the final 200m in 25.87s to record an overall time of 1m 56.83s. Johnson secured second place.

During an eye-catching season, Joyce has become North East Counties Athletics Association (NECCA) U17 800m champion, and English Schools U17 800m champion. He also won the Schools International Athletic Board (SIAB )800m title, and took silver medal while running for England in the Youth Nations Cup in Dublin.
