A STALWART of Tynedale Rugby Club is moving on to pastures new.

Senior coach Matthew Fieldhouse has secured a new teaching role in London. The 33-year-old was a key member of Tynedale's coaching set up last season, and previously served the club as a long-serving player.

Fieldhouse played junior rugby at Tynedale, and also represented the Colts, before breaking into the first XV. A back row, who later moved to hooker, he played 105 games for Tynedale, scoring 19 tries, before his career was curtailed by a shoulder injury.

A Tynedale spokesman said: “Matt has been at the club all his life. He is a true Tynedale Rugby Club man, playing a lead role in arranging many social events and always having the wider interests of the club at heart.

“Our thanks go to Matt for the tremendous work he has done at the club and we wish him well in his new adventure.”

As a schoolboy, Fieldhouse was a member of a very successful team at Hexham’s Queen Elizabeth High School, and represented the county both as a junior and senior player.

Affectionately known as ‘Mouse’ by all at the club, he was also a member of the Newcastle Falcons Academy for several years as a youngster.
