IN BETWEEN postponements, Wallington’s season got off to a losing start in the Premier Division of the Northern Alliance.
Their trip to New Fordley in midweek was the only game from their opening three fixtures which beat the weather, and it didn’t herald a point as they went down to the only goal of the game.
Saturday’s fixture at home to Whitley Bay Reserves was called off due to the rain, as was their opening fixture against Percy Main Amateurs, to add to Wallington’s frustration.
The only game they have managed to play ended in the slender 1-0 defeat, with a goal just before the half hour mark proving the difference.
A free kick floated in to the area from Scott Pocklington was flicked home by Phil Grant, the goal enough for all three points.
Wallington missed a golden chance to level on 40 minutes, and it was hosts New Fordley who looked most likely to add to the scoreline after the break.
