This week there were two outstanding stars - one for on the field performance - and the other for off the field achievement.

After being introduced to cricket as a child growing up in Wylam, 14-year-old Emma Bargna is already a senior women's German international cricketer.

During a visit to the district last weekend, she excelled while playing for Ashington Ladies against Tynedale at Prior's Flat.

Emma, who is doing all she can to grow the game of cricket where she lives in Munich, is a star of the week.

Hexham's deputy mayor Stephen Ball was the driving force behind the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, which provides assistance to players affected by life-changing injuries, and in some cases, families who have lost loved ones, playing their chosen sport.

Stephen has been added to the Rugby Football League's (RFL) elite roll of honour, and is also a star of the week.

Team of the week goes to Hexham Leazes, who defeated reigning champions Humshaugh in the West Tyne Cricket League.
