A TEAM of martial art stars from the district returned home from the World Kickboxing Championships with a haul of medals.

Four competitors from Ryton-based Aiki Martial Arts and Fitness scooped 11 medals between them, as the team finished 14th overall against opposition from across the globe.

The efforts of Caylan Holliday, Callum Mavin, Sarah Stevenson, and Cameron Wright saw them named Team of the Week.

A special mention goes to Prudhoe kickboxer Callum Beeckmans, who scooped three titles at the world event.

Cricketer Lizzie Scott scored 113 runs for Durham Cricket RDC in a regional development fixture. Just days later, she represented England women's academy team, in a match against an ICC women's global development side.

The Matfen teenager scored the winning runs, finishing on 15 not out. She was named Star of the Week.

A special mention goes to Johnny Henderson, the Hexham acro-gymnast who was part of a male quartet which won silver medals at the British Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool.

Also worthy of note are Sean Heads, who won his fifth club championship at Hexham Golf Club, and Ben King, who lifted the club championship at Bellingham, a year afer losing to his father Michael in a dramatic play-off.
