THERE was a good turn out of local riders at the Burgham International Horse Trials.

Last weekend’s event attracted some of the world’s best to Burgham Park, at Felton near Morpeth.

Philippa Nixon, of South Northumberland Pony Club, was sixth in the Howard Russell Construction CCI-S 3* section A, with Arctic Cruising.

Laura Varty-Lindsay, of Longwitton near Belsay, was also among the competitors in the same event, with Quick Je Jaime, and earned a top-40 finish.

Also at Burgham, Oxford’s Kitty King enhanced her chances of securing a place on the British team for the forthcoming European Championships in Luhmühlen, Germany, after winning the principal class, the Newton Hall CCI4*-S, on Vendredi Biats.

Norfolk’s Piggy French scored her ninth international success of the year by taking the Howard Russell CCI3*-S on Highdown March. Event director Martyn Johnson said: “It’s been a brilliant event once again. We are very grateful to everybody who has put so much into making Burgham such a special event.”
