TEENAGE running star Dan Joyce was on top form at the English Schools Track and Field Championship in Birmingham.
The Slaley youngster took on the country’s best in the intermediate boys’ 800m at the Alexander Stadium.
Representing Durham, he won his heat with a time of 1:55.09, finishing ahead of Merseyside’s Charlie Roberts (1:55.68), and Manchester’s Charlie Hobson (1:55.96).
In the final, he ran a time of 1:53.30 to pip Roberts to the title by just under a second. Reece Sharman-Newell, of Hampshire, was third with a time of 1:54.55.
The 16-year-old has enjoyed success at local, regional and national level in recent years, and memorably won gold while representing England at the Schools International Athletic Board (SIAB) Championships, in Scotland, in 2018.
This has been a busy summer for Joyce, with the pupil at Blaydon’s St Thomas More school sitting his GCSEs.
