FIRST team players from Newcastle Falcons descended on Tynedale Park at Corbridge this week.

But Falcons’ skipper Will Welsh and his teammates haven’t signed for Tynedale ahead of the new season.

Instead they were at the Corbridge-based club as part of a new DIY initiative.

It meant RFU Championship players were painting fences, cleaning advertising boards, clearing up the car park, and sprucing up the grandstand.

The initiative saw Falcons players help out at several grass roots clubs, charities and community organisations, across the North-East.

The scheme was an idea of the Newcastle club’s coaches, to offer players and staff an opportunity to make community links and lay the foundations for a successful 2019/20 season.
