TIM Wrigley lifted this year’s club championship title at Tynedale Chess Club, after defeating Bruce Reed in the final.
It has been a busy end to the season for Tynedale’s players, who have now completed their competitive fixtures for the 2018/19 campaign.
Wrigley has been in the thick of the action. He represented the Monarchs team which enjoyed success at the recent Arthur Fulton Memorial Trophy, and also won the South Tyne Chess League.
The season also saw Tynedale put chess in the headlines once again. Back in January, the club arranged an exhibition match at the Queen’s Hall in Hexham.
It saw 11-year-old Chinese chess wonderkid Yichen Han take on 17 of the district’s leading players - simultaneously.
The Corbridge-based club will begin the new season in September.
New players, regardless of ability, are always welcome to get involved.
