RAIN thrashed down during the Northumberland Schools Track and Field Championships.

But the challenging conditions didn’t stop the district’s youngsters from excelling, as they represented Tynedale against competitors from across the county.

After winning his heat in the junior boys’ 100m, Jack Maxwell came second in the final, with a time of 12.2s.

Leon Hall was second in his heat in the junior boys’ 200m, and went on to win his final, with a time of 25s.

In the junior boys’ 300m final, there was a third place finish for Shay Lowrey (42.6s).

Nathan Abrams was third in the junior boys’ 800m final, recording a 2:16.4 finish. Finley Wilkinson was a clear winner in the junior boys’ 80m hurdles final, with an impressive time of 12.1s.

Oliver Clohesy was second in the junior boys’ 4kg shot put with a throw of 9.65m.

In the junior boys’ javelin competition, Jake Robson was the winner by a clear margin, his throw measuring 32.13m. Robbie McManus won the boys’ 1.25kg discuss with a throw of 26.45m.

In the girls 100m, Mia Belton won her heat, before enjoying victory in the final, with a run of 13.1s. Jess Sales was second in her heat, in the junior girls’ 200m, before earning third place in the final with a run of 28.3s. Sales was also third in the junior girls’ 800m final, with an excellent time of 2:23.8.

In the junior girls’ long jump, Anya Manuel’s jump of 4.32m saw her crowned champion. A throw of 17.9m from Georgina Harland earned her third place in the 1kg junior girls’ discuss.

Lewis Cant won his heat in the intermediate boys’ 100m, before winning his final, with a time of 11.4s. Sam Irons, who came second in his heat, earned third place in the final, with a run of 11.8s.

In the intermediate boys’ 200m, Josh McKeown won his heat, before winning the final with a time of 25s. Harry Coldwell was third in his heat. There was a third place finish for Toby Ferguson in the intermediate boys’ 400m final, with a time of 55.1s. Rowan Bennett (4.12.9s) finished ahead of fellow Tynedale runner Charlie Daley (4.16.9) in the intermediate boys’ 1,500m final.

In the intermediate boys’ 100m hurdles final, the winner was Tom Beales with a run of 15.4s. Beales was also second in the triple jump (10.92m). Tynedale runners earned first and third places in the intermediate boys’ high jump. Archie Leonard (1.60m) was the winner, while Rhy Findlay (1.55m) was third. Harry Coldwell was second in the intermediate 5k shot put, with 9.89m.
