NAMES from the district were among the winners at Northumberland FA’s Grassroots Football Awards.

Almost 200 people attended the awards evening at Newcastle’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Hexham FC’s Andy Turnbull was named grassroots coach of the year. Long-serving Andy enjoyed league title success with Hexham Greens U18 this season, having guided them through the age groups over the past decade.

Andy said: “I feel privileged and honoured to receive this award but I couldn’t have achieved this without the help of many people. To all at Hexham FC, without everyone’s help and support this award would not have been possible. A massive thank you to you all.”

Prudhoe YC Seniors’ Sam Dibb-Fuller was one of 10 players recognised for reaching 10 appearances for the county team.

The winners will now be put forward for the national FA awards to be announced later this month.
