BOWLERS from across the Tyne Valley and over the Cumbrian border descended on Haltwhistle for a prestigious annual competition.

The Haltwhistle Open Pairs Bowling Tournament saw teams go head-to-head for no fewer than seven hours, with quality play on show throughout.

But despite welcoming players from far and wide, it was the local pairing of Malcolm Davidson and Michael Rogan who were crowned champions.

Malcolm, who is Haltwhistle club president, and fellow member Michael, got the better of Hexham House duo Keith Sanders and Geoff Lamb in the final.

Third place went to Brampton twosome Brian Lightfoot and Hope Calvert, following their victory of father and son pairing John and Gerald Davidson.

The day, which began with a round robin, before moving onto the knock-out stages, was a resounding success.

Haltwhistle club secretary and tournament organiser Maurice Davidson, thanked all bowlers and event sponsors, the Smith Charitable Trust.
