A NEW addition at this year’s Northumberland County Show proved a popular one with runners.
The inaugural Egger Woodland 5km was born out of a collaboration between the Hexham chipboard manufacturer and Tynedale events company Run Nation.
Entrants paid £15, which included entry to the county show, and enjoyed a scenic route through the Northumberland countryside during Sunday’s show day.
The competition was open to runners of all abilities from the age of 11 and up, was the first of its kind in the long history of the county show.
Prizes were awarded to the top three finishers for both men and women, and all participants received an Egger goodie bag.
Jamie Thorn won the men’s race, fending off competition from Rob Earle of Tynedale Harriers, who came second. Matthew Kerry of Claremont Road Runners came third.
In the women’s race, Claire Davies got the top spot, while Stocksfield’s Claire Collinson of Blaydon Harriers came second and Hexham’s Joanne Lee, of Tyne Bridge Harriers, came third.
