HEXHAM Canoe Club celebrated more slalom success last weekend at a national event.

Around 120 entries took part in the competitive event at Fairnilee, Scotland, which included teams from across the UK.

In preparation for the slalom ahead, the Hexham team were on the water bright and early on Saturday morning for training and preparation.

Hexham Canoe Club’s vice-chairwoman, Lorainne Glendenning, said: “It’s really important to see what the course is like, and to practise on it before the competition gets underway.”

The tricky and demanding course didn’t faze Edward Dando (12) who was participating in his first Division Three race. For he finished first place in the J14.At only 12-years-old, Lorraine is overwhelmed by Edward’s performances, “He’s a gutsy competitor and will take anything on,” she said.

Also making his Division Three debut, Mike Brendan posted a personal best to finish in seventh and 10th place over the weekend.

Chloe Glendinning returned to winning form after several years away. A double C2 win was in the bag before she went on to take a double win in Kayak.

Ryan Dodd’s impressive performance in the C1 saw him post two second places as well as a second and fourth placed finish in the kayak. David Glendenning also took fourth and fifth places in his slalom runs.

Lorainne said: “It was brilliant to see such impressive performances from everyone involved. The team is performing really well, and we’re all looking forward to the future.”
