TYNEDALE Colts have completed a county cup double to cap a remarkable season.
The U18 team caught the eye last month when they won the 15-a-side Northumberland County Colts cup, with a 39-27 win in the final against Percy Park at Kingston Park, the home of Newcastle Falcons.
On Sunday, the talented teenagers turned their attention to the seven-a-side game, and they won the Northumberland County Colts Sevens Cup, with a 36-32 final win against Novos.
A statement on Tynedale RFC’s website praised the “tremendous achievement” of the players and coaches involved.
Their double-winning season comes just over a year after Tynedale Colts reached the final of the National Colts Cup, where they played Maidenhead in the final, at Sixways, the home of Premiership side Worcester Warriors.
Delighted coach Richard Cramb said many of the cup winning youngsters would still be eligible to play for the Colts next season.
He said the youth section at the club was in good health, and that the players are keen to build on their success next season.
Tynedale’s first team finished the season strongly, securing fifth place in National League Division Two North.
