A PRUDHOE golfer continued his impressive start to the season by breaking a course record in Spain.

Andy Scrimshaw posted a seven-under-par 65 at the Las Brisas Pro-am near Marbella.

The record-breaking round saw him hole seven birdies in the last 12 holes, beating the previous course record set the day before by two shots.

His efforts were rewarded with a second place finish at the two day event, with an overall score of five-under-par, which earned Andy €1,200.

He started his season on the Alps Tour with a joint 22nd place finish in Egypt in February, and improved to finish 14th and 18th in a further two tournaments in Cairo in March.

Since then, he’s posted an impressive second place finish in the Katameya Open in April with a score of five-under-par, and fifth in the Abruzzo Open, Italy, with a score of 10-under-par. The 26-year-old is attached to Close House Golf Club and coached by Hexham Golf Club professional Andy Paisley.

“It’s just a matter of time before he takes the next step on to the European Tour playing for much bigger prizes,” said Paisley.
